New Delhi:
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will meet Interior Minister Amit Shah at his residence today ahead of talks between the Center and agricultural leaders about their agitation against the new agricultural laws.
Sources said Amarinder Singh will hold discussions with Amit Shah in Delhi in an effort to find an amicable solution to the deadlock. Punjab’s prime minister has been supporting the farmers’ uproar and the state Assembly also passed a set of laws aimed at denying the Center’s agricultural legislation.
Amarinder Singh had said that he and his government were willing to mediate talks between the Center and the farmers in the collective interest of all.
The protesting farmers, many of whom are from Punjab, have been holding sit-ins for seven days on the borders of the national capital. They demand that the government withdraw the new farm laws if they want them to end their uproar. Peasant leaders and the central government are ready to hold another round of discussions today after a meeting on Tuesday was inconclusive.
Here are the live updates on the farmers’ protests:

Farmers protesting the new farm laws say today’s talks, the fourth since the protests began in September, are the center’s “last chance” to call an emergency session of parliament and recall controversial legislation. Speaking after two internal meetings to define their strategy, they also warned the center not to sow discord in its ranks by reframing the protests as driven solely by Punjab farmers. Read here
