Indian Medical Association ( IMA) observed a nationwide no-demonstration strike on Friday to oppose the central government’s move to allow Ayurvedic Doctors to perform the surgery.
Demanding the withdrawal of the notice allowing Ayurveda postgraduates to perform modern medicine surgery, the IMA called for the removal of all non-essential non-COVID services between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. today.
Dr. Rajan Sharma, national president of IMA, said allowing Ayurveda postgraduates to perform surgery is a “blatant attempt” to “corrupt” the country’s healthcare system.
“It takes years and years to become a doctor. With myxopaths, what are we headed for? It is a failure when nations commit to health,” said Dr. Sharma.
He said that the IMA He is not against “any kind of way”, but against the mixture of disciplines.
“We are not against any kind of path, be it Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy. We are proud of our national heritage and wealth, but we let it coexist with modern medicine. All we demand is not to mix the disciplines. It will also mean the end of pure Ayurveda, “he added.
the IMA He reiterated that 200 years of medical research has been needed to achieve modern medical capabilities, where drugs are controlled and double-controlled and research-oriented.
Doctors across the country are observing the strike with a black belt in protest while on duty.
The protesting doctors said that surgery is a team effort where preoperative, intraoperative, anesthesiologist, postoperative evaluation and complications are vital aspects.
the IMA He said the unrest is likely to intensify in the coming weeks if the government does not withdraw the notification.
