Dr. Kafeel Khan was arrested on the night of January 30 with the help of the Mumbai police at the airport when he arrived in the city to attend protests against the CAA.
An FIR against Khan was registered under section 153-A (Promotion of enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Mumbai Civil Police Station on 13 December.
According to the FIR, Khan had said in his speech that “‘Mota bhai’ teaches us to become Hindus or Muslims, but not human beings.”
Khan first made headlines after the child deaths tragedy at Gorakhpur BRD hospital in 2017. Khan was suspended and arrested following outrage over the incident.
However, a government-led investigation had cleared him of corruption and medical malpractice charges in 2019.
