With all the Scindias now formally part of BJP, this year for the first time the big party is celebrating the centenary year of the birth of Vijaya Raje Scindia, one of the founders of Jan Sangh and BJP on a large scale.
Beginning in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal, celebrations were held in Gwalior, home to Scindias, and in New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually participated in events marked in memory of the late Queen of Scindia.
Although Jyotiraditya’s father, Madhav Rao began his political career in Jan Sangh, he embraced Congress and remained in the great party until his death. Jyotiraditya Scindia followed in her father’s footsteps in the Congress party, but ended her association in March this year amid accusations of “faulty leadership.”
His aunts – Vasundhara Raje Scindia and Yashodhara Raje Scindia are still associated with BJP. Jyotiraditya’s maternal aunt, Maya Singh, has also been in BJP for years and had been a minister in Shivraj’s cabinet in the past.
Besides Scindia, Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also came to Rajmata’s Chhatri (samadhi sthal) in Gwalior to pay tribute to Queen Scindia and called ‘Amma Maharaj’ a lovable mother figure who fought against injustice. during all his life.
Chouhan did not forget to mention that Rajmata had ended the congressional rule of injustice rule in 1967-68 and underscored the fact that Madhav Rao Scindia had also formed the Vikas Congress after the party resorted to injustice in the decade 1990.
“Recently, Jyotiraditya ji also helped inform about a new government and led to the downfall of the selfish congressional government,” Chouhan added. The Chief Minister stated that Raje’s soul would now be delighted, as with the arrival of Jyotiraditya Scindia, the entire Scindia family has come to the BJP and will complete their unfinished works.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Trade Union Minister Prahlad Patel also joined the event virtually from New Delhi, where the prime minister tossed a 100 rupee coin in memory of the late Vijaya Raje Scindia.
The prime minister in his speech recalled his association with the late Rajmata and said that he had met her during the Ekta Yatra put out by the main leader Murli Manohar Joshi in which he used to handle the arrangements.
“For her, the whole country was her family and every citizen was her child,” Prime Minister Modi said. He also regretted the fact that the event to mark the centennial birth year celebrations is not taking place on a large scale, saying the program would have been great had the coronavirus threat not existed. However, he included Vijaya Raje among the personalities who shaped the direction of India in the 20th century.
She was a decisive leader who, despite being a member of the royal family, fought for the public and also spent part of her life in jail, Prime Minister Modi added.
To add, Jyotiraditya Scindia is at a crucial juncture in his political career as 16 of his loyalists in the fray, and making them victorious is seen as a litmus test for him after entering the BJP. The BJP district units organized an event based on the life of Vijaya Raje, while a photographic exhibition about her was also organized at the BJP headquarters in Bhopal.
