Alagiri considers starting her own party, will meet Rajinikanth in Chennai

According to sources close to Alagiri, he has been in Chennai for more than a week and was awaiting a response from the DMK regarding his readmission.

The ousted DMK leader MK Alagiri told the media on Thursday that he will accept a call to start his own party after January 3. The son of the late DMK boss, M Karunanidhi, also added that he will also meet actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth, when The Last One arrives in Chennai.

Alagiri spoke to reporters after meeting his mother Dayalu Ammal at her Gopalapuram residence. According to sources close to Alagiri, he has been in Chennai for more than a week visiting his son and was awaiting a response from the DMK regarding his reintegration into the party. However, it has now become clear that there will be no such invitation from the Dravidian group. The non-acceptance has forced Alagiri to try to chart his own political path before the state assembly elections.

“I have a meeting with my supporters on January 3. Based on this discussion, I will take a call to start a new match,” Alagiri said.

Sources close to the leader say Alagiri has been contemplating starting his own party and is seeking to form alliances with existing political structures ahead of state elections.

“But starting a party is not child’s play. We have to take into account several factors before deciding to go down that path. Alagiri is looking to assess the type of support he has, before taking the plunge,” says a source close to him. to the leader.

Multiple sources had told TNM that Alagiri was in talks with the BJP but had denied the possibility of an alliance with the BJP to Dinamalar.

The sibling rivalry between Alagiri and current DMK boss MK Stalin was well known, as they both fought for succession in the match. Alagiri had been suspended and later expelled in 2014 for anti-party activities. However, after Karunanidhi’s death in 2018, he said that he was ready to accept Stalin’s leadership and be part of the DMK.
