Akshay Kumar admits the reality of Bollywood drugs; break the silence on Sushant and defend the industry

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar broke his silence on the widespread unrest on and within the film industry in a video message addressed to Bollywood fans. With folded hands, he asked fans to give them a chance to rectify serious problems like drugs and narcotics that have come to the fore after the unfortunate disappearance of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June this year. In the speech, Akshay Kumar also called on the media for sensitivity towards artists, as he claimed that negative news has the power to destroy their reputation and hard-earned careers.

This is what he said:

“Today, with a heavy heart I am talking to you. I have wanted to talk to you for a few days, but I did not know what to say because there is so much negativity around us. They call us stars … but you have made Bollywood with your love. We are not only interested in industry. We have also made the culture and values of India known to all corners of the world through our films. Whenever audience sentiment is mentioned, our cinema has tried to show all sentiments, now that there are feelings of anger, we will take it as our order.

After SSR’s death, many of these issues have come to the fore that have hurt us as much as you have. These matters have forced us to introspect our lives … to examine many aspects of the film industry that need attention now. Like narcotics and drugs. I can’t cross my heart and lie to you and tell you that it doesn’t exist. It exists as in any other industry and profession. But that doesn’t mean that everyone in the industry is involved.

Drugs are a legal matter and the investigation of the main agencies will surely bring justice. I know that the film fraternity will cooperate with the law and fully support it. But I ask you not to view the entire film industry as an evil and dishonorable place. Please do not do that.

Personally, I have believed in the power of the media. If our media does not speak out at the right time, many people do not get justice. I ask the media to continue their efforts, but with a little sensitivity, because negative news can potentially destroy the reputation of artists who have worked hard for years to earn it. “
