With the neurological activities of Jogi, 74, “almost nil” and in a coma, doctors began “audio therapy” by making him listen to his favorite songs with headphones.
Jogi was admitted to Shree Narayana Hospital on May 9 after suffering cardiac and respiratory arrest. According to doctors, a sweet tamarind seed was stuck in Jogi’s windpipe.
“Jogi’s condition remained very critical and he is still in a coma,” said Dr. Sunil Khemka, medical director of the hospital.
“His neurological activities are almost nil. Doctors are making every effort to revive his brain activity. We have also started giving him ‘audio therapy’ by making him listen to his favorite songs through headphones, but so far our efforts have not had success, “he said.
He added that Jogi’s heart function, blood pressure, and urine output remained under control.
Meanwhile, the hospital’s nursing staff prayed for Jogi’s speedy recovery as part of the International Nurses Day on Tuesday, said Dr. Khemka.
A politician-turned-bureaucrat, Jogi had served as Chhattisgarh’s prime minister-in-chief from November 2000 to November 2003 at the time. Congress government, after the state was carved Madhya Pradesh.
Jogi, the MLA holder from the Marwahi seat, parted ways with Congress in 2016 and formed his team Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J).
