Air pollution | Sonia Gandhi moves to Goa for medical advice

Congress President Sonia Gandhi moved to Goa on Friday afternoon on medical advice to avoid smog and air pollution in Delhi.

Accompanied by her son and former head of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, Gandhi, 73, is likely to be in Goa until air quality improves in Delhi, a congressional official said.

“Doctors have recommended to the President of Congress that he move from Delhi to a place with cleaner air. The polluted air in Delhi has taken a toll on his health and aggravated his asthma and his chest condition, which has not improved much despite the medication, ”the official said.

Ms. Gandhi was hospitalized in July for a chest infection and has been taking medication ever since.

On September 12, he went abroad for a routine medical check-up with Mr. Gandhi and skipped the monsoon session of Parliament, held between September 14 and 23 under special conditions due to COVID-19.

Rumbles at the party

Ms Gandhi’s decision to move from Delhi comes amid internal rumors about the party’s performance in Bihar, as well as crucial by-elections in several states.

Senior leader Kapil Sibal, who was part of the Group of 23 Leaders who questioned leadership in a letter in August, had launched a new attack on leadership. He said recent poll results showed that “Congress was not seen as a viable alternative by voters, but for the leadership it could continue as usual.”

Since then, several high-level leaders have joined the debate. However, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel urged their colleagues to discuss organizational issues in party forums instead of going to the media.
