AIIMS nurses go on indefinite strike for better pay, Ministry of Health intervenes India News

Around 5,000 nurses from the Indian Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi (AIIMS) decided on Monday (December 14) to go on an indefinite strike with immediate effect to correct their demands, including those related to the Sixth Central Payments Commission.

According to the Delhi AIIMS Nurses Union, the country’s leading medical institution is hiring nurses from abroad on contract. The strike was scheduled to be observed from December 16 (Wednesday).

All services have been interrupted when the Delhi AIIMS Nurses Union took a big step after the AIIMS administration and the health department rejected their demands.

AIIMS Director Dr. Randeep Guleria said: “They have 23 demands. Almost all demands have been satisfied by AIIMS administration and government. I call on all nurses and nursing officers not to strike in this moment of the epidemic. “

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Union has asked the nurses to suspend the strike or strict measures will be taken against them under the Disaster Management Act. “The Ministry is open to submitting the new lawsuit to the appropriate authorities for comprehensive consideration and therefore the AllMS Nurses Union may be asked to reconsider and withdraw the call for any strikes, especially during these difficult times, due to the national priority of effectively addressing the Covid-19 pandemic, “the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

IANS reported that the AIIMS nurses union claimed that the hospital administration has introduced contractual terms into their employment that forced them to anticipate the strike. He said the decision has come as a shock to the entire fraternity.
