AIIMS director rushes to Ahmedabad after Gujarat sees sharp rise in Covid-19 cases

New Delhi: With Gujarat reporting a large number of coronavirus cases and deaths, AIIMS Director Dr. Randeep Guleria rushed to Ahmedabad to provide expert guidance to physicians on the management of Covid-19.

Following instructions from the Center, Dr. Guleria, who is a pulmonologist, and Dr. Manish Soneja of the AIIMS medical department departed for Ahmedabad on a special flight by the Indian Air Force on Friday night, official sources said.

“They will visit the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and SVP hospital on Saturday to provide expert guidance and advice to physicians on treating coronavirus-infected patients there,” PTI said, citing an official source.

With 390 more people testing positive for COVID-19 and 24 deaths, the total number of cases in Gujarat rose to 7,403 and the death toll reached 449 on Friday. Of the total number of coronavirus cases in the state, Ahmedabad has the highest number of Covid-19 cases with 1,298 confirmed infections, followed by Vadodara (188), Rajkot (40) and Bhavnagar (32).

According to data from the health ministry updated today, the total number of coronavirus patients in the country increased to 59,662. The largest number of confirmed cases in the country are from Maharashtra with 19,063, followed by Gujarat with 7,402, Delhi with 6,318, Tamil Nadu with 6,009, Rajasthan with 3,579, Madhya Pradesh with 3,341 and Uttar Pradesh with 3,214.
