Gurgaon: With an eye toward CBSE board exams for classes X and XII, schools are preparing to take pre-board exams online after the second week of December. Several schools have developed their own AI-based platforms for these tests.
On December 3, CBSE announced that the board exams scheduled for next year will be held offline. However, with the possibility of holding preliminary meetings online, schools are trying to ensure that unfair means are not taken. students while performing the test, and for this the parents or guardians have been assigned watchers. Some schools have stepped forward and asked students to maintain a mirror behind them so that he camera shots various angles.
After reopening in the first week of November for about two weeks, schools in Haryana were ordered closed after several students were found with the infection. Although the date of resumption of physical classes in the state was set for December 10, the education directorate has written to the government urging schools to remain closed until the end of this year.
“Previously, we expected to make pre-boards offline in small batches. But now it seems unlikely, so we have decided to take the online assessment. Most of the assignments on the board are 80-point tests and we want students to practice writing all the work. But we also want to make the experience easier for them, ”said Bhism Bhardwaj, president of Gurgaon Sahodaya, a district association of schools.
Charu Maini, Principal of DAV Public School, Sector 49 said they are employing artificial intelligence platforms based on more fluid supervision and attendance of students. The software will take photos every few seconds and create sequential videos of each examinee to share with teachers. It will help identify students who ask for outside help or look the other way.
Multiple shots of student photos, taken every few seconds, are put together to create a time lapse video of each examinee, which is shared with teachers for their supervision as a report. The technology identifies test takers seeking outside help or looks away from the test screen and points them out.
“Additional platform functions, such as automatic question selection and randomization, navigation control, and image and window monitoring, are built in to ensure a smooth exam process,” Maini said. “We have decided to divide each article into two parts. The first MCQ-based question will appear with a time frame and the second part will be subjective. After writing the article, they will submit it by converting the photos of their responses into PDF files and will make the assessment less stressful for teachers, ”he added.
Sudha Goyal, Principal of Scottish High Internation School, said they will also use similar technology to perform the pre-meeting review. “We require that students keep their webcams on during the exam. We encourage the use of two devices, one to download and consult the questionnaire and the other in which the camera can be continuously on to monitor, ”he said.
Meanwhile, HBSE (Haryana School Board of Education) students await instructions to take pre-meeting exams. “We will run the tests virtually in December, but we still expect to run a second round of offline pre-boards next month. Our board students will write two-and-a-half hour exams, but we can’t force them to keep their cameras on if they say they can’t. Therefore, we will also conduct oral exams for honest evaluation, ”said Yashpal Yadav, state president of Haryana School Sikshan Sangathan.
