A ‘safe and effective’ vaccine against the new coronavirus could soon become a reality. India has already started the registration process to distribute the vaccine as soon as it is available. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation launched an online portal for vaccination registration on Saturday, news agency PTI reported. The coronavirus vaccine will be offered first to healthcare workers, frontline workers, and people over 50 and people under 50 with comorbidities.
Citizens of the city’s priority groups who have not yet registered with the health workers who conduct the house-to-house survey or in urban health centers can register on the portal, the civic body said. The portal can be accessed at www.ahmedabadcity.gov.in. “This facility is only for citizens who have yet registered with health workers or in urban health centers,” the statement said, according to PTI,
People from priority groups can also visit the nearest urban health centers with their identity cards such as a driver’s license, PAN card, voter card, etc.
The registration process for healthcare workers, frontline workers, people over 50 and those under 50 with comorbid conditions has already begun, according to an official statement. The Gujarat government previously said that it has already identified around 3.9 lakh health workers as the first priority group for COVID-19 vaccination. The list includes 2.71 lakhs of Class III and IV government doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians and employees. At least 1.25 lakh of doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians and private hospital employees participating in COVID-19 duty are also on the list.
Police, home guards and others indirectly involved in COVID-19 treatment and services will be given second priority, state health minister Nitin Patel previously said.
COVID-19 vaccination: trial starting next week
The central government will organize a vaccination test in four states: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat and Punjab. The exercise will take place on December 28 and 29. Each state will plan the vaccination with dried rum in two districts and preferably in different (five) sessions: district hospital, CHC / PHC, urban site, private health center, rural extension, etc. “This will allow end-to-end mobilization and testing of the COVID-19 vaccination process (except vaccine) and verify the use of Co-WIN in the field setting, the links between planning, implementation and reporting mechanisms and identify challenges and guiding the way forward before actual implementation, including any improvements that may be needed in the envisioned process. This will also provide hands-on experience to program managers at various levels, “the statement said.
“To strengthen the capacity of our human resource for COVID-19 vaccine introduction and deployment, detailed training modules have been developed for different categories of vaccine handlers and administrators, including medical officers, vaccinators, alternate vaccinators, vaccine handlers, the cold chain, supervisors, data managers, ASHA coordinators and everyone else involved in the implementation process at different levels, “the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in a statement.
