GURUGRAM: Congress leader Ahmed Patel, who was receiving treatment at a Gurugram hospital after testing positive for Covid-19, breathed his last after multi-organ failure in the early hours of Wednesday, his son Faisal confirmed. He was 71 years old.
In a tweet, Faisal said Gujarat MP Rajya Sabha died at 3.30am on Wednesday.
“With deep sorrow and regret, I am sorry to announce the sad and untimely passing of my father, Mr. Ahmed Patel, on 11/25/2020, at 03:30 am After testing positive for Covid-19 about a month ago, his health worsened further due to multiple organ failures. May Allah grant him Jannatul firdaus, inshallah, “he tweeted, requesting all his supporters to adhere to Covid-19 regulations avoiding mass gatherings.

“… also uphold the rules of social distancing at all times,” Faisal tweeted.

Prime Minister Modi mourned the death of the congressional veteran and said that Patel was known for his sharp mind and that his role in strengthening the Congress Party would always be remembered.

Congressional leader Rahul Gandhi lamented the disappearance of one of Sonia Gandhi’s closest political advisers and said he was a pillar of the Congress party and supported the party in its most difficult moments.

Several leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi, Randeep Singh Surjewala, also expressed their condolences on Twitter.
“He was a supportive friend of us all, steadfast, loyal and trustworthy to the end,” wrote Priyanka Gandhi.

Patel, also treasurer of the National Congress of India, tested positive for Covid-19 on October 1 and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on November 15.
On October 1, Patel, revealing that he tested positive for Covid-19, urged everyone who came in contact with him in recent days to self-isolate.
