Bhopal:
The Congress party suffered another setback in Madhya Pradesh a week before the elections when a fourth MLA, Rahul Singh, resigned from the state assembly.
Hours later, Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in Bhopal.
Rahul Singh, a Damoh legislator, handed his resignation over to Acting President Rameshwar Sharma, who accepted it. “Damoh area MLA, Rahul Singh has resigned from his post, which has been accepted,” Shama tweeted.
“I have worked with Congress for about 14 months, but I was unable to work for development. All public welfare plans have been suspended at Damoh. Today, I have willingly joined BJP. I am confident that Damoh will rise to touch great heights, “Singh said.
Welcoming Singh to the BJP, Chief Minister Chouhan said: “After losing hope in Congress, those who want to work for development are leaving that party. Today, Rahul Singh Lodhi has joined the BJP after resigning. as Damoh legislator. “
With this, Damoh’s seat has been declared vacant. The strength of Congress in the 230-member chamber has now been reduced to 87.
In July, Congressional lawmakers Narayan Patel from Mandhata, Pradyumn Singh Lodhi from Bada Malhera and Sumitra Devi Kasdekar from Nepanagar also resigned from the state assembly and later joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
In March this year, 22 rebellious MPs from Congress, loyal to former Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, had resigned from the party that led to the 15-month-old Kamal Nath government downfall in Madhya Pradesh.
Madhya Pradesh’s 28-seat by-elections, which will decide the fate of Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s government, are scheduled for November 3. The result will be declared on November 10.
