NEW DELHI: Ahead of the upcoming festival season and amid the economy reopening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a ‘Jan Andolan’ awareness campaign to promote appropriate Covid-19 behavior such as the use of masks, hand hygiene and maintaining physical distance.
“The fight against Covid-19 in India is driven by people and draws great strength from our Covid warriors. Our collective efforts have helped save many lives. We need to continue the momentum and protect our citizens from the virus. # Unite2FightCorona, “Modi tweeted.

“We’re going to # Unite2FightCorona. Let’s always remember: Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Follow social distancing. Practice ‘do gaj ki doori’. Together, we will achieve it. Together, we will win against Covid-19,” he said in another tweet.
The campaign, launched through a series of tweets with the hashtag # Unite2FightCorona, garnered massive support on social media, including endorsements from Bollywood celebrities such as Salman Khan, Shankar Mahadevan, Kriti Sanon, and Kangana Ranaut.
The campaign was launched in view of the upcoming festivals and the winter season, as well as the opening of the economy, the PMO said in a statement. Its aim is to be a low-cost, high-intensity campaign with the key messages of ‘wear a mask, follow physical distancing and maintain hand hygiene’. The government also plans to implement a concerted action plan together with the state governments and the Union Territories.
