The Uttar Pradesh government has replaced the Agra Medical Director (CMO) in the wake of the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the city.
“Special Officer Dr. RC Pandey will take over as Chief Medical Officer of Agra with immediate effect, replacing Dr. Mukesh Kumar Vats. The decision has been made taking into account the current situation prevailing in Agra due to the spread of Covid-19, ”said the order of the state secretary general, Amit Mohan Prasad.
Uttar Pradesh reported five more coronavirus deaths on Sunday when 102 new cases emerged, bringing the state’s infection count to 3,467. So far, 79 people have died from the infection in the state.
A health department official said Sunday that three deaths were reported from Agra and two from Meerut, the most affected districts in terms of deaths.
So far, Agra has reported the maximum of 24 Covid-19 deaths. Agra has so far reported 764 positive crown cases; 13 new cases were reported on Sunday.
So far, 1,653 Covid-19 patients have been discharged after treatment, while the number of active cases in Uttar Pradesh is 1,753, according to the state health department.
Meanwhile, 12 inmates at the Agra Central jail tested positive for the deadly virus on Sunday night.
“We had sent 24 samples of prisoners for laboratory tests and of these, 12 reported a positive crown by SN Medical College (SNMC). Now, fresh samples for laboratory tests have been collected at the National Leprosy Institute of Jalma, ”the IANS news agency quoted Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) Luv Kumar as saying.
On Saturday, a 60-year-old convict from the Agra Central Prison, who tested positive for a crown, died during treatment at SN Medical College.
The positive cases of Covid-19 from the central prison have caused considerable concern to health officials, indicating the possibility of community transmission in the prison that is now being disinfected.
