From the route to the stations, here is everything you need to know about the project:

  • The proposed project will have two corridors that will run through the heart of Agra connecting iconic places like Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Sikandra, etc. 29 subway stations will be selected in two corridors of Agra. Of these, 13 stations will be in the first corridor and 16 stations in the second.
  • The length of the corridor from Sikandra to Taj East Gate will be 14 km. It will be partially elevated and will have six stations: Taj East Gate, Basai and Fatehabad Road (the three elevated stations) and Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Jama Masjid will be underground stations.
  • The length of the corridor from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar will be 15.40 km and it is proposed to have Agra Cantt., Sultanpura, Sadar Bazaar, Pratap Pura (future), Collectorate, Subhash Park, St. John’s (Agra University), Hariparvat Chauraha, Sanjay Place, MG Road, Sultanganj Crossing, Kamla Nagar, Rambagh, Foundary Nagar, Mandi Samiti (Agra Mandi) and Kalindi Vihar Stations.
  • The first corridor from Taj to Sikandra will reduce the traffic load on the roads, which will be environmentally friendly. By having metro for the main monuments, tourists will get great relief. The first section is being built up to Jama Masjid. In the 14 km corridor from Sikandra to Taj East Gate, the metro will cover more than 7 km underground, while the second corridor will be completely elevated.
  • Air conditioning and all other necessary facilities will be present in the subway cars along with the provision of high-tech LED lights and display screens. Elevators and escalators are also proposed in metro stations every 5 minutes, taking into account the need of daily commuters.
  • Parking has also been organized at ten stations and a large parking lot at some stations. Underground parking is also being considered. The advanced signal system of Australian technology will never allow braking at the speed of the subway. Passengers will be able to take the subway every 5 minutes.
  • People will be able to easily reach places like ISBT, Raja Ki Mandi Train Station, Medical College, Agra Cant Train Station, Collectorate, Sanjay Place and other surrounding densely populated residential areas. The corridors will have multimodal integration with railway stations and BRTS stations and will have a bus feeder network, Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) and Non-Motorized Transport (NMT).

It is worth noting that this project is estimated to benefit nearly 20 lakh people directly or indirectly. For the implementation of this metro project, Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation, a jointly owned company of the central government and the UP government, is reconstituted as’ Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC).
