NEW DELHI: After granting permission to proceed against Kunal kamra For virulently criticizing the Supreme Court, Attorney General KK Venugopal on Friday gave his consent to another contempt process against the comedian for his tweet against the Chief Justice.
In his consent letter to a lawyer, Venugopal said that the tweet “is to deliberately insult the Chief Justice of India, which would also be an insult to the Supreme Court of India itself, which is presided over by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Such a tweet is extremely vulgar and disgusting, and I have no doubt that it would tend to undermine the authority of the Supreme Court of India as well as undermine the trust that the litigating public has in the institution of the Supreme Court itself. ”
Unfettered by the contempt petition filed against him in the Supreme Court after Venugopal allowed the process, Kamra tweeted a photo of two fingers in reference to CJI on Wednesday.
A lawyer for the UP then approached the attorney general seeking his prior approval to file contempt proceedings against the comedian.
