Union Interior Minister Amit Shah announced Wednesday that all canteens of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) such as CRPF and BSF will sell only indigenous products from June 1 to 50 Lakh relatives of approximately 10 lakh staff.
In a series of tweets in Hindi, Shah said the decision was made by the Interior Ministry after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to opt for local products and be self-sufficient.
Shah also called on the people of the country to make the most of the products made in the country and encourage others to do the same.
“The Interior Ministry has decided that all the dining rooms of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will now sell only indigenous products. This will be applicable to all CAPF dining rooms throughout the country from June 1, 2020. With this 50 lakh family members of approximately 10 lakh CAPF staff will use indigenous products, “he said.
The CAPFs – CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, NSG and Assam Rifles – the soup kitchens together sell products worth Rs 2,800 crore annually.
Referring to Prime Minister Modi’s call on Tuesday, during his nationwide speech, to make the country self-sufficient and to use products made in India, Shah said this will surely pave the way for India to lead the world in the future.
“If every Indian agrees to use products made in India (Swadeshi), the country can become self-sufficient in five years,” he said.
In a televised speech on Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi said that local suppliers have met “our demands” during this crisis and now Indians will have to be “vocal about the local” and buy products from them.
Explaining the details of the self-sufficiency strategy, Modi will depend on five pillars: the growth of a new economy, the creation of a state-of-the-art infrastructure, the creation of a technology-based delivery system, the use of young demographics and the exploitation of domestic demand.
The Prime Minister’s push for “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-sufficient India) in the midst of a coronavirus pandemic is being seen as an opportunity to constantly tone RSS for the ‘Swadeshi’ development model in the country.
Many senior Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) officials, including their chief Mohan Bhagwat, have long been arguing over a post-Covid-19 world order, which Prime Minister Modi also mentioned yesterday in his speech.
On April 26, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat called the push for “self-sufficiency” and “swadeshi” the next stage of “national reconstruction”.
“Self-sufficiency” is the new mantra of development that implies an economic system that is employable, efficient in energy consumption and respectful with the environment. This will be the next stage of national reconstruction. Even during the crisis, testing some fundamental truths. We should also take the national reconstruction project with the fundamental principle of self-sufficiency, “said Bhagwat, speaking of the need to instill ‘Swanshi Sanskars’.
