Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Nitesh Rane on Monday shared another video from Mumbai’s BMC-run KEM Hospital, in which at least three body bags can be seen lying next to patients in one of the wards of the hospital.

Rane tweeted along with the clip that the video has been shot this morning (May 11) at 7 am. “I think the BMC wants us to get used to seeing dead bodies around us while taking treatment because they just don’t want to improve,” he wrote.

He further wrote that he feels bad for the healthcare workers who are forced to work in such pathetic conditions.

The latest video comes days after a chilling video showing bodies wrapped in plastic bags lying next to Covid-19 patients at Sion Hospital had gone viral. Soon after it surfaced online, an inquiry committee was formed to investigate the reasons behind the lapse and the dean of Sion hospital was transferred.

Slamming the Uddhav Thackeray-led state government, Rane shared another video and said that such issues have been raised several times but there has been absolutely no change in the administration and the way the civic body functions. Thoughts Rane says the video is taken on Monday morning, there is no clarity on how long the bodies were lying in the ward unattended.

“It is very clear from these videos that Maharashtra is in a mess and completely out of control,” he said.

Commenting on the video, Shiv Sena leader Anil Desai said that there is no need to defame anyone and everyone is working efficiently. “Maximum care is being taken. If any such video (KEM Hospital) is viral on social media then it might have happened at that very moment but corrective measures would have been taken immediately. All officials are working efficiently. No need to defame anyone, “Desai told ANI.

According to the standard operating procedure issued by the BMC on May 2, victims must be removed from the ward within 30 minutes of their death. The bodies should either be handed over to the relatives or kept in the morgue.

As per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 22,171 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra including 4,199 recovered and 832 deaths.
