New Delhi: Following the example of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to promote local products, the Union Ministry of the Interior decided on Wednesday that dining rooms by paramilitary forces will sell only indigenous products from June 1 in an attempt to give a boost to small-scale industries and Khadi.
The national network of more than 1,700 dining rooms of the Central Police (CPC) sells products ranging from groceries, clothing to gift items worth Rs 2.8 billion a year to 50 lakh relatives of approximately 10 lakh staff.
In a series of tweets in Hindi, Union Interior Minister Shah said the decision to sell only indigenous products through CPCs was made by his ministry after the prime minister’s appeal Tuesday to opt for products local and be self-sufficient.
Shah also urged people to make the most of domestically produced products and encourage others to do the same.
The indigenous word, according to officials, means that products manufactured by Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) and those produced by companies under the umbrella of the Khadi Village Industries Commission will be promoted at CPCs.
All fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and other durable consumers, manufactured in India by various companies and available so far at CPCs, will continue, officials said, adding that no imported items were available in CAPF dining rooms.
However, they added that as the new guidelines for having “Swadeshi only” come into effect from June, detailed instructions from the Home Office are expected in this context.
“The Ministry of the Interior has decided that all the dining rooms of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will now sell only indigenous products. This will be applicable to all CAPF dining rooms throughout the country from June 1, 2020. With this 50 lakh family members of approximately 10 lakh CAPF staff will use indigenous products, “said the interior minister, adding that if every Indian promise uses products made in India (Swadeshi), the country can become self-sufficient in the coming years. five years.
“It should use domestically-made products as much as possible and encourage others to do the same. This is not the time to be left behind, but to turn the crisis into an opportunity,” said an official statement.
CAPF canteens comprise the CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB, in addition to the NSG command force.
Referring to Modi’s call on Tuesday, during his speech to the nation, to make the country self-sufficient and to use products made in India, Shah said this will surely pave the way for India to lead the world in the future.
Urging the people of the country, the interior minister said: “Let us strengthen all hands of Prime Minister Modi on this journey of making India self-sufficient through the use of indigenous products.”
In October last year, the Interior Ministry ordered all CAPFs or paramilitary forces to avoid foreign brands and introduce ” swadeshi ” products, including food, household items and clothing, in their dining rooms and offices.
The official order issued by the ministry last year had said that “swadeshi” should be available in these dining rooms that include food, clothing and accessories for the khaki and combat uniform, sheets, towels, curtains, stationery and everything the other articles.
Although the new acquisition of these items must be “swadeshi” or made in the country, according to the order, the existing items must be replaced by the same when it is to be replaced.
“The objective of the order is to increase the income and status of local producers of these goods. This is to promote indigenous products and industries. These forces are approximately 10 lakh of strong personnel today and procure water bottle items and goods for worth Rs million a year, “a senior official had said.
CPCs were established in 2006. There are more than 119 main dining rooms and 1,625 subsidiary dining rooms in various locations where these forces are deployed, either along borders or within states affected by the Naxal violence or insurgency. .
