Citizen groups will present a plan to the Maharashtra coalition government Vikas Aghadi (MVA) demanding integration into the Metro corridors after the latter made the decision to move phase three of the project, which runs from Colaba to the Zone. Export Processing of Electronic Products of Santacruz (Seepz). via Bandra.
The state government is seeking to move the corridor from Aarey to Kanjurmarg, a suburb east of Mumbai.
Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced on Sunday that the Metro-3 car depot would be built in Kanjurmarg together with the Metro-6 project, which runs from Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli.
Citizen groups had submitted a plan to the government last year to scrap the Metro-6 project. They had proposed an extension of the Metro-3 project by another six kilometers (km).
Nitin Killawala, a Mumbai-based architect, suggested the route through Marol Naka, which crosses Saki Vihar and Chandiviki to Vikhroli on the Eastern Express Highway.
Citizen forums have opposed the Metro-6 project on Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road, as it faces huge traffic jams.
“We have made similar plans for all Metro projects that are under construction. The Metro-4 project, which runs from Wadala to Kasarwadavali, can also connect to Kanjurmarg and key locations can be served by city buses, ”he said.
“All Metro projects are being built on major roads leading to total traffic chaos. All of these projects also face excessive delays. Our plan is more holistic, “he added.
Killawala, along with Powai resident groups and other architects and activists, will present the plan in a webinar next week, after which the MVA government will be contacted.
Various citizen groups were active during the protest against the proposed Metro shed in the Aarey neighborhood in the western suburbs. They demanded the scrapping of the project as Aarey Colony is one of the last surviving green belts in Mumbai.
On Sunday, Thackeray announced that the car shed would move to Kanjurmarg.
