Uttar Pradesh Prime Minister Adityanath, along with his Uttarakhand counterpart Trivendra Singh Rawat, arrived in Kedarnath on Sunday afternoon to attend Monday’s closing ceremony for the shrine portals.
Adityanath flew to Dehradun and later accompanied Rawat to Kedarnath, where they also assessed the ongoing reconstruction work in the city of Kedarpuri, near the shrine.
On Monday, the Kedarnath Shrine portals will close for the winter season at 8:30 am on the occasion of Bhai Dooj.
After offering prayers in Kedarnath, the two chief ministers will proceed to the Badrinath shrine, where Adityanath will offer prayers and lay the foundation stone for a Uttar Pradesh government tourist guesthouse to be built there.
In October 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones for five major reconstruction projects at Kedarnath Shrine. Projects include improved facilities for devotees, construction of retaining walls and ghats on the Mandakini and Saraswati rivers, an access road to the shrine, and the reconstruction of the Samadhi Sthal of Adi Shankaracharya, an early 8th century seer and founder of the Vedanta school of philosophy.
