On the 50th anniversary of Yash Raj Films, President and Filmmaker Aditya Chopra wrote a note for his late father Yash Chopra, who had founded the production house.
“In 1970, my father Yash Chopra, left the safety and comfort of his brother, Mr. BR Chopra, and started his own company. Until then, he was a salaried employee of BR Films and had nothing of his own. He did not. He knew how to run a business and didn’t even have the basic understanding of what running a business entails. All he had was a strong belief in his talent and hard work and the dream of being self-sufficient.
“That conviction of a creative man who endorses nothing but himself and his art, gave birth to Yash Raj Films. Mr. V Shantaram, owner of Rajkamal Studios, kindly gave him a small room in his studio for his office Not my father. So I know that the small company he founded in a tiny room would one day become the largest film company in the Indian film industry, “Aditya wrote in a statement. See below:

Sunday also marks the 88th birthday of Yash Chopra.
Recalling the making of the blockbuster film “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”, Aditya Chopra added: “1995, when Yash Raj Films (YRF) turned 25, my debut film as director Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was released. Confidence to give wings to some crazy and risky ideas I had for the future of YRF. In addition to the immense love my father had for me, I now also had a lot of faith in my ideas due to the miraculous success of my film. I had foreseen the arrival of international corporate studios to come to India and they took over our business.
“I wanted us to reach a certain scale, so that we could retain our independence before they came in. My father contradicted his own conservative mindset and bravely indulged all of my bold endeavors. And in a quick 10-year span, we went from a film production to India’s first fully integrated independent film studio, “he said.
Chopra thanked everyone associated with the company over the past five decades.
“For 5 decades, YRF, at its core, has been a traditional company with deeply ingrained old world values and a conservative approach to business. This perfect balance of traditional and modern is what defines Yash Raj. Films, “the statement read.
