Urmila Matondkar’s induction ceremony took place in the presence of Uddhav Thackeray.

New Delhi:

Actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar, who resigned from Congress after participating in last year’s Lok Sabha elections, joined the Shiv Sena. The small ceremony took place in the presence of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and party leader Uddhav Thackeray at his residence in Matoshri. He is likely to join the state Legislative Council with the governor’s fee.

State Ruler Maha Vikas Aghadi, the alliance of the Seine, Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party of Sharad Pawar, has already referred her name to the Governor of Maharashtra, BS Koshyari, along with the names of 11 other people.

The governor, who can nominate 12 members to the upper house of Maharashtra’s legislature on the recommendation of the cabinet, has not yet approved the list of 12 names.

Urmila Matondkar, 46, had joined the Congress in March in the presence of Rahul Gandhi. She had unsuccessfully contested the North Mumbai constituency national elections.

In September, he left Congress. In her resignation letter, she had mentioned “petty internal politics” as the reason for resigning from the party after a seven-month stay.

Meanwhile, the actor has spoken on social media about the Citizenship Amendment Act and other topics.

He had also clashed with actor Kangana Ranaut for comparing Mumbai to Pakistani-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and the problem of nepotism.

He also criticized Ms Ranaut for her comments on drug use in Bollywood. “You cannot cross a certain line, speak ill of an industry that has done it all. If some people are using drugs or drug addicts, there is no reason to compare it to the mafia,” he said.
