Actor Vijayashanti resigns from Congress to join BJP on Monday and meets with Amit Shah in Delhi | India News

New Delhi: Actor-turned-politician Vijayashanthi has resigned from the Congress party and is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday.

Late Sunday night, Vijayashanthi met with Union Interior Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and earlier had met with MoS Home and BJP leader G Kishan Reddy and BJP chief from Telangana , Bandi Sanjay Kumar.

Vijayashanthi had joined Congress in 2014. The former MP, a senior leader in Congress, has not been actively involved in party activities in Telangana in recent months.

Vijayashanti, who began his political career with BJP, joined the TRS Party and switched his allegiance to Congress in 2014 before the formation of the Telangana state.

His entry into the BJP will likely give the party a huge boost, as the saffron party recently made huge strides in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.

The BJP made great strides in the GHMC elections by winning 48 seats, while the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) won 55 seats making it the largest party.

The AIMIM led by Asaduddin Owaisi won 44 seats and Congress won two seats.

Vijayashanti would be the second popular star in the south to join the BJP after Khushbu left Congress and embraced the saffron party.
