New Delhi:
Actor Mithun Chakraborty, who joined the BJP today in Bengal, said that the reason behind his move was his lifelong dream of helping the poor, adding that he is confident that the party will win the assembly elections in the condition.
Speaking to journalists after joining the party in a massive rally today, the actor said that only one party is helping the poor and that if he wants to fulfill his dream, he must take someone’s hand.
“You can be selfish or anything else. But the reason behind my selfishness is that I want to be with poor people, I want to fight for them,” Chakraborty, 70, told reporters.
“Since I was 18 I dreamed that I would stay with the poor, I will help them, I will give them due respect,” said the National Award-winning actor, adding that even his films are also about this.
He also said that the top leaders of the BJP have made the party a great success in the state. He added that he is confident that the BJP will win the Bengal elections which will be held in eight phases starting on March 27.
“BJP is running the government, that’s for sure. And if we can all fulfill the Prime Minister’s dream of a Sound banglaI’ll be the proudest man, “adds Chakraborty.
Chakraborty said that he had never been associated with any party before, and said that the Trinamool Congress had appointed him a deputy for Rajya Sabha and that it was his “bad decision.”
“I left (as a deputy for Rajya Sabha), I don’t want to point a finger at anyone that it was their fault. It was my bad decision. Let’s finish with that issue here,” adds the actor.
Mithun Chakraborty resigned from Trinamool two years after his nomination to Rajya Sabha after being named in the Saradha check fund case. He was questioned by the Directorate of Enforcement of Rs 1.2 crore that he had received from the group as a fee for becoming a brand ambassador for a television news channel funded by the Saradha group.
He returned the money and resigned Rajya Sabha and the Trinamool Congress citing health problems.
He added that he has always worked for the poor but has never made it public.
“Jaante to sabhi hai ke dada kya karte hai (Everybody knows what Daddy does), “he adds. Chakraborty, who has a large following in Bengal, is called” Mithun-gives“for everyone.
Since RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat visited Mithun Chakraborty at his bungalow in Mumbai on February 16, there has been speculation that the actor could join the BJP.
Wearing a kurta, cap and sunglasses, the actor accepted the BJP flag today and greeted the crowd at a large rally led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to campaign for the Bengal elections.
