Veteran Marathi actor Ashalata Wabgaonkar died Tuesday morning at a hospital in Satara, Maharashtra, days after testing positive for Covid-19. The 79-year-old actor had gone to Satara to film his series in Marathi Aai Kalubai, where he had been tested for coronavirus.
According to a press release, his last rites will be performed in Satara. She is survived by her son. A PTI report quoted a senior doctor at the hospital as saying, “Her condition worsened Monday night and she was put on assisted respiration. He took his last breath this morning. “
In response to the news, actor Renuka Shahane tweeted in Marathi: “Today I am deeply saddened. Covid has claimed the life of a very beautiful soul. She was an extremely loving, caring, sensitive and brilliant actress. She always used to bless me as her son. May her soul rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences. ”
Ashok expressed his grief, telling the Times of India: “We made our debut together in the Marathi entertainment industry. She played a leading role and was also honored with the best actress award in the Maharashtra State Competition for her debut. We both did training with Fimmaker Gopinath Savkar. Savkar was our guru and Ashalata is like my spirit sister. So today I lost my divine sister. “
BJP leader Narendra Saiwankar also wrote on Twitter: “The Dangerius # Covid_19 virus has another price. Deeply saddened by the disappearance of Goan artist #AshalataWabgaonkar. A great loss for Marathi theater, Hindi cinema and cinema as well. We all grew up watching his movies. May your soul reach Sadgati. Om Shanti Hands together #Ashalatawabgaonkar ”.

Ashalata acted in various Marathi and Hindi films, as well as theater. Basu Chatterjee introduced him to the Hindi movies with Apne Paraye. She also appeared in films such as Ankush, Ahista Ahista, Woh Saat Din, Shaukeen, Namak Halaal, and Yaadon Ki Kasam, among a few others. She was also known for her work in Marathi cinema and theater.
