Actor Arjun Rampal’s home in Mumbai is being searched by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), which is investigating drug allegations linked to the film industry, sources said Monday.
Yesterday, the wife of the Bollywood producer, Firoz Nadiadwala, was arrested by the anti-drug agency after about 10 grams of marijuana were allegedly found in her Mumbai home in raids.
NCB officer Sameer Wankhede told the PTI news agency that Firoz Nadiadwala was subpoenaed but did not appear.
The Nadiadwala were searched after the recent arrest of an alleged drug dealer.
The bureau’s investigation began earlier this year when, during investigations into actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in June, drug-related WhatsApp chats were found on the phone of his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, also an actress.
Subsequently, Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, two of Sushant Singh Rajput’s employees and a few more were arrested for allegedly arranging drugs for the 34-year-old actor who was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14.
As the anti-drug agency expanded its investigation, Bollywood top performers such as Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh were questioned.
Rhea Chakraborty, 28, was released on bail last month.
The NCB, which generally goes after drug cartels and suppliers, said the questioning of the actors was part of its attempt to unravel the celebrity supply network.
The accusations have divided the film fraternity, with one section attacking smearing the industry. Many well-known actors and filmmakers have been controlled by the accusations.
“I will be a liar if I say that this problem does not exist in our industry. It exists, like all industries. But all people in all professions are not involved in such problems. This is impossible,” said actor Akshay Kumar. he said in a short video posted in October, addressing allegations of widespread drug abuse in the film industry.
