Active covid cases in India fall below 8.2 lakh as recoveries overtake new cases


Active coronavirus cases in India continued to decline as recoveries outpaced the increase in new daily cases. According to the Ministry of Health figures released today, there were 8.12 lakh of active covid cases in the country after 67,708 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours. The total case count is 73.07 lakh, including 63.83 lakh healed and 1.11 lakh deaths.

Here are 10 updates:

In the last 24 hours, 81,514 patients were declared cured of covid while 680 succumbed to the infection.

On Wednesday, 11.36 lakh covid tests were conducted across the country, bringing overall testing to Rs 9.12 crore.

The COVID-19 fatality rate has dropped further to 1.52%.

India is seeing new recoveries more than new cases consistently in recent days, the government said.

The recovery rate improved to 87.36%.

With 1,935 testing laboratories in the country, including 1,112 government laboratories and 823 private laboratories, daily testing capacity has received a substantial boost, the government said in a statement.

Maharashtra continues to contribute the most with 19,517 single-day recoveries.

Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Kerala reported 5,050, 8,662, and 7,792 single-day recoveries, respectively.

After a period of seven months, today movie theaters and multiplexes will be reopened in various parts of the country with a 50 percent capacity and seats will be marked as ‘not occupying’ to ensure physical distancing to combat COVID-19.

To clear the festive fever, the Ministry of Railways has approved 196 pairs (392 trains) of “Special Festival” services on Indian Railways to be operated from October 20, 2020 to November 30, 2020.
