Active cases in Bihar, the deaths in Delhi twice in a week

After narrowing for the past month, the India coronavirus career has picked up this month, with new infections and deaths rising faster than in most of the other badly affected countries. Although India reported its first case on January 30, around 69% of India’s total cases have been reported in May alone. The leap of 5,611 cases between Tuesday and Wednesday was the biggest so far.

At this rate of growth, the number of cases could cross 150,000 in seven days. The continuous increase of cases poses a serious challenge to India’s strained medical capacity and the overloaded health system.

At 26,172, Maharashtra leads in terms of number of active cases, according to the ministry of health of the update this morning. Active cases include the deaths and recoveries from the list of confirmed cases.

Next on the list is the state of Tamil Nadu with 7,469 active cases, followed by the state of Gujarat, with 6,378 patients still in treatment. Delhi is the fourth in the list with 5,636 active cases and Madhya Pradesh fifth with 2,577. The five states collectively accounted for 79 per cent of the active cases at the national level, and ten states account for 92 percent of all cases. At the national level, the active account of the case was 61,149 Wednesday morning.

During the last seven days, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra have seen the biggest increase in cases among the ten states with the most cases. These three states account for 66 percent of all new active cases in this period. During the same period, the deaths have increased more in Delhi, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, which account for 14 percent of all the covid-related deaths in the last seven days. Active cases have decreased in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

But given the uneven testing throughout the country, the mere decline in daily reported cases does not necessarily imply a peak in new infections, as a new Economic and Political Weekly (in this case:) research paper by two researchers of the Delhi-based Council for Social Development suggests. They argue that an outbreak can be said to be slowing down only when the number of new cataract cases without a similar decrease in the number of daily tests that are performed.

In Gujarat, for example, reported a huge increase in the weekend despite the fact that they appear to be slower than the previous week. The government of the state is attributed to the increased mass of the unit tests in Ahmedabad. The CASE: study says inadequate testing can result in an underestimation of the work load. Between the charge states, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh have been the least effective in the search of evidence, and contacts, the study says.

Until now, 582 districts have had confirmed cases in the country. Mumbai (22,674 cases) has reported the most cases at the national level among all districts, followed by Ahmedabad (8,945) in the state of Gujarat. Chennai (7,668) in the state of Tamil Nadu, thane (4,402) in Maharashtra, and Pune (4,211) in Maharashtra, who are the other leaders of the districts. These top five districts account for 51 percent of the confirmed cases in the country.

Indore (2,759) in Madhya Pradesh, Jaipur (1,626) in Rajasthan, Kolkata (1,460) in West Bengal, Jodhpur (1,135) in Rajasthan and Surat (1,156) in Gujarat are the other high-burden districts which figure in the list of the ten districts. The ten districts that account for 60 percent of all confirmed cases to the national level. The district wise data for Delhi are not available and therefore not part of this list.

The majority of India’s points so far have been urban-rich districts, with the wealthiest of the states more affected than the rest.

Meanwhile, the global coronavirus number of cases has crossed 4.8 million, even, as some have affected to the countries begin to relax blockade measures after more than a month.
