Gonda’s acid attack: A forensic team and a platoon of police dogs searched the area.

Lucknow:

Three young Dalit sisters from Uttar Pradesh have been hospitalized after being attacked with acid while sleeping at home. The incident took place around 2 am in a town in the Gonda district, 117 km from the state capital, Lucknow.

The three sisters were sleeping in their room when the attacker allegedly entered their house from the terrace and threw acid at them.

Hearing their screams, his father ran to his room to see that they were attacked with acid. The attacker had escaped by then.

The older sister, 17, has 30% burn injuries and the middle sister, 12, has 20% burns. The youngest, 8 years old, has five to seven percent burns. They were admitted to a government hospital in Gonda.

His father irons clothes in the village to earn a living.

“The oldest girl who has the most burns, her wedding was arranged. The wedding was about to take place soon. Her face has been burned from the acid. Now I don’t know what the wedding will be like,” he said.

The police speak to the sisters’ family and their neighbors. A forensic team and a platoon of police dogs are searching the area.

“The family has not identified any suspect who has thrown the acid. Therefore, the investigation is being conducted on the basis of a complaint against unknown persons. However, we suspect that a known person has a role in this,” he said Senior Police Officer Shailendra Kumar. Pandey told NDTV.

Congressional leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the Yogi Adityanath government for the incident. “The politically motivated narrative of the UP government to justify and protect perpetrators of crimes against women has only emboldened criminals across the state,” she tweeted.
