Delhi police arrested the Aam Aadmi MLA Prakash Jarwal party on Saturday and charged Kapil Nagar in connection with a doctor’s suicide case here last month, authorities said.
Jarwal and Nagar were called for questioning Saturday night and then arrested, police said.
On Friday, a Delhi court issued a NBW against the MLA in connection with the case.
The 52-year-old doctor, Rajendra Singh, allegedly committed suicide in Durga Vihar, south Delhi, on April 18, holding Jarwal responsible for his suicide note, after which the police had registered a case against the accused legislator from extortion and instigation to suicide.
Singh reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself on the roof of his home. At around 6.15 a.m., police received a PCR call about the incident.
Her son Hemant told police that Singh ran a clinic in Durga Vihar and that he had also been in the water supply business with the Delhi Jal Board since 2007.
A suicide note was recovered from Singh’s home, claiming that Jarwal was responsible for his death.
A case of extortion, instigation of suicide against Jarwal, Kapil Nagar and others had been recorded at the Neb Sarai police station, based on a complaint by Hemant.
On Thursday, police questioned Jarwal’s father and his two brothers regarding the same case.
In 2018 Jarwal was arrested for allegedly assaulting Delhi’s chief secretary Anshu Prakash.
