AAP investigates Gautam Gambhir for mocking Kejriwal’s house arrest

Cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir mocked Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday after the Delhi CM was allegedly placed under ‘house arrest’ for visiting protesting farmers on the Singhu border and promising support.

Gambhir took to the microblogging site Twitter and wrote: “किसान तो सिर्फ बहाना है, पंजाब की सियासत में आना है! खुद ही घर में बंद होकर हाउस अरेस्ट चिल्लाना, ये सिर्फ @ArvindKejriwal कर सकते हैं (Farmers are just an excuse to come to power in Punjab. Lock yourself in the house and shout “house arrest”, only Arvind Kejriwal can do it) “.

Kejriwal, the party’s national convener, had pledged support to farmers protesting against the Center’s three agricultural laws. He visited the Singhu border, where farmers are demonstrating, on Monday to review the arrangements made for them.

While Gambhir’s tweet drew a variety of reactions from Twitterati commenting on the protest from the farmers and Bharat Bandh, it was a response from Kejriwal’s official Party Twitter user Aam Aadmi that soon went viral across the platform.

After poking fun at Gambhir’s recent vacation with his family, the AAP responded to MP’s tweet saying: “Are you tweeting this from the Maldives?”

Previously, the former cricketer had shared photos of him taking off from his duties to spend time with his family.

On the Bandh called by the farmers, the prime minister had said: “AAP will participate in the national strike. I hope that the whole country will join it peacefully and I ask you to join and support the farmers.”

“I came to inspect the arrangements. The bathrooms are clean. The water does not reach all the points, so a motor and a pipe will be installed,” he said. “The farmers said they are happy with the arrangements. Our MLA Jarnail Singh spent the night here in support of them. All of our volunteers and party members are involved in serving the farmers,” Kejriwal added.

Delhi police, however, denied the charges, and the DCP said it was a “general deployment to avoid any confrontation between AAP and any other party and Kejriwal was free to go out.”
