Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party alleged on Sunday that BJP leaders and workers stormed the home of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, vandalized property and smashed CCTV cameras in an increasingly intense clash involving municipal agencies from the city.
BJP workers have been protesting in front of ministers’ houses since Monday demanding funds for the civic bodies they control and had attacked the home of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday while police were on the sidelines.
“We have been away from the Chief Minister’s house for seven days, but he doesn’t even want to talk. Today, when the councilors were sleeping (outside their home), people from the Chief Minister’s office began to place cameras there without regard for their privacy, which the councilors objected to, ”said Jai Prakash, mayor of North Delhi corporation. .
Earlier in the day, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Raghav Chadha, Atishi and others were detained while on their way to the residences of Interior Minister Amit Shah and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal as part of their party’s counter-protest.
While the BJP claims that the Delhi government owes around Rs 13,000 crore to the municipal corporations in the north, south and east, the AAP alleges a fraud of Rs 2,500 crore by the opposition party in civic bodies.
The AAP asked why the BJP was allowed to protest, but was denied permission citing COVID-19 rules.
The AAP, which had planned a protest outside the Shah and Baijal residences calling for an IWC investigation into their allegations, questioned why the Delhi Police refused permission for their demonstration citing COVID-19 restrictions while allowing them the BJP.
