A man claiming to be from the underworld of Don Dawood Ibrahim’s gang called Matoshree, the residence of Maharashtra’s chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, on Sunday. The call has put the state police on high alert and the security of the CM has been reinforced.
Shiv Sena leader and Transport Minister Anil Parab told reporters that the caller said he “wanted to speak to the CM” but, contrary to some media reports, did not threaten to blow up Matoshree.
“There was an anonymous call in Matoshree. The caller said he is from the Dawood gang and wanted to speak to the Chief Minister. This is the main information. The caller did not threaten to blow up Matoshree. We have informed the police about the phone call. “
Parab said police are investigating whether the caller was actually related to Dawood Ibrahim. “The police are investigating who called, why he called and if he is really related to the Dawood gang. The government will not allow the person to be blamed. However, until now, no one had dared to threaten Matoshree, ”Parab told the media.
The minister said that the government will ensure adequate security for the Chief Minister. “The police department will take appropriate measures on the security of the CM. However, your security is checked from time to time and before the start of the Assembly session. The CM has received adequate security, which will continue more ”, added Parab.
The state cabinet, meanwhile, expressed concern about the call and strongly condemned it. Calling it a “very serious case,” the cabinet said the Union government should take note of it immediately and find out who the people are behind it. They must be given strict punishment, said a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office. The statement added that Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh had said that the criminal branch was conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
