A large fire breaks out at the Bhandup Mall; patients evacuated from Sunrise Hospital


At least two people were killed in a major mishap that broke out at Bhandup’s Dreams Mall Thursday night around 11:49 pm.

Several patients were evacuated when smoke spread through Sunrise Hospital located on the third floor of the mall, which is a dedicated COVID-19 hospital.

All patients have been moved to a safer shelter area. It has been made available to patients who are currently being cared for by physicians.

“Two victims have been reported in a fire. The rescue operation for 76 patients admitted to the COVID care hospital is underway. A fire of level 3 or 4 broke out on the first floor of a shopping center at 12.30 a.m. . M. spot, “said DCP Prashant Kadam.

Bombay Mayor Kishori Pednekar also visited the site and said that seven patients were on ventilators and 70 patients had been transferred to another hospital.

“There will be an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.”

The operation to put out the fire is still underway, as the blaze broke out again at the rear of the mall on Friday morning.

BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Deputy Municipal Commissioner for Disaster Management (DMC) and Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani were also on site. “Patients are being transferred to the Mulund Jumbo Center and Fortis Hospital,” said DCP Prashant Kadam.
