A 20-year-old man allegedly stabbed his father and grandfather to death and then jumped from the sixth floor of their Mulund apartment building in Mumbai on Saturday.
Police said the young man, identified as Shardul Mangle, had mental disorders and was under medical treatment. He fatally injured his 55-year-old father and 85-year-old grandfather and then ended his life by jumping from his sixth-floor apartment in the Vasant Oskar building on LBS Marg Mulund West.
According to a Times of India report, the family’s maid, Kamble, asked Shardul to attend her online lectures and then went to make coffee in the kitchen. “This could have caused Shardul to take out a kitchen knife and cut his father’s throat. Milind managed to run out of the house, but Shardul caught him and stabbed him multiple times and then went in and stabbed his bedridden grandfather, “TOI quoted a Mulund police officer.
Kamble, who locked himself in a bathroom, narrowly escaped. Later, Shardul jumped off the balcony and was found dead with multiple injuries. Police suspect the sudden outburst of anger could be due to Shardul reducing his dose.
Shardul’s parents were separated and he lived with his father, a motivational speaker, and his grandfather, who was bedridden. His mother and sister live in Ghatkopar.
