A 17-year-old boy in Kolkata kills a 14-year-old friend in a fight

A 17-year-old boy killed his 14-year-old friend in a poor neighborhood near Dover Terrace, a posh residential area in southern Kolkata on Monday after an altercation, police said.

The police who captured the defendant have registered him for wrongful death that does not amount to murder.

Authorities said the 14-year-old boy was playing on his father’s cell phone when the other approached him and asked what game he was playing. He, however, did not respond and instead asked what the other boy was carrying. The older one carried a tube of adhesive.

“This started an altercation and caused a fight between the two. The older one kicked and hit the younger one on his chest and abdomen. The latter fell unconscious. They rushed him to the hospital where they declared him dead, ”said an official from the local police station.

Locals said the two teenagers were old friends and used to play and fight frequently.

“Initially, when the fight started, nobody cared as they were two friends and they used to play and fight regularly. But on Monday, when they turned violent, some neighbors intervened. But by then the boy had fallen unconscious, ”said Ghutan Singh, a neighbor who was an eyewitness.
