In a move that might upset some, OnePlus has just announced that it is wrapping up its Oxygen OS Open Beta program for OnePlus 6 and 6T.
A representative of the company attended the OnePlus forums to announce the end of the beta program for these devices:
To ensure that our Open Beta program runs smoothly and to prepare for the addition of new devices to the program, OxygenOS Open Beta 6 will be the latest open beta for OnePlus 6 and 6T.
The company recommends anyone running beta software on a OnePlus 6 or 6T to roll back their devices. To make it easier, OnePlus is releasing a special rollback version that will install Oxygen OS 10.3.2 on user devices. Once installed, device owners will continue to receive stable updates based on the company’s normal release schedule.
Rolling back the device is a fairly painless process. Users will need to download the appropriate OnePlus rollback package (this one for OnePlus 6 and this one for OnePlus 6T). From there, they should start File Manager and move the .zip file from the Downloads folder to the root directory. Then open Settings, go to System, System Updates, press the cogwheel in the upper right corner, choose Local Update and select the previously downloaded rollback file.
Unfortunately undoing the device and quitting Oxygen OS Open Beta will completely erase all data, which means users will need to back up their devices to make sure they don’t lose their contacts, call history, messages and soon .
Backing up a OnePlus 6 or 6T is painless enough. Start in Settings, followed by Utilities, then OnePlus Switch, click Backup and Restore, and then select New Backup. Users will need to select the types of data they want to back up and then press Start Backup. After the backup is complete, it is important to copy the data to a computer via a data cable or to a cloud service so that it can be accessed after the rollback.
Once the device is fully reverted, restoring the backed up data is fairly straightforward. First, copy the backup folder called [opbackup] return to the device from where it was stored. How to back up your data, head to Settings, followed by Utilities, then OnePlus Switch. From there, tap Restore Backup and choose the data to be restored. This will cause the device to have a current build and exit the Oxygen OS Open Beta onwards.
