Patricio Freire, 32, has recently called the UFC on being insensitive to its fighters. Freire feels that the UFC should not push to organize events during these tumultuous times.
The Bellator has been canceling all of its upcoming events. However, the promotion seeks to return sometime in June or July. And the two-division champion feels this is the way to do it. Meanwhile, the UFC is still hoping to host UFC 249 sometime in May in Florida.
In a recent interview, Freire filled his promotion with praise by comparing his moves to those of his counterpart, the UFC.
“If it was my money, (and) if I was a billionaire, I would do what Bellator is doing. I can’t say a date that might not be erased. “Oh, I’m going to rent an island.” Is that feasible? And who are you taking to an island? How will that be? ”- Patricio Freire to MMA Fighting
Even though there is no fighting, Bellator has been paying for her fighter show and making money. Bellator is looking to organize fights in a studio owned by ViacomCBS in June or July. However, no dates have been finalized.
“Wait for the market to react, and when the government opens everything when it can bring in fighters from other continents, that’s fine. If that possibility is real, let’s have an event. There is no debate. (UFC) is just making noise for the media, creating a disaster and making money. ” – Patricio Freire
Patricio Freire criticizes the UFC for chasing money
As Freire sees it, the UFC is struggling to keep its name in the media and pushing to organize events despite prevailing health concerns.
“My impression is that the fighters are the last ones, right? Fulfilling contracts comes first, making money and fucking around. Bring entertainment for those at home and f ** k the fighter if he will contract the virus or die. It seems inhumane. “- Patricio Freire
“You can’t make plans. Promotions are up to the government (and) how they will open the market. So tell me when and how they will have events and fights. I think if the US market opens slowly, promotions will return to normal.” – Patricio Freire
The two-division champion was looking to take on Pedro Carvalho at Bellator 241. However, the promotion was forced to drop the event a few hours before the first bell.
After a streak of 5 consecutive wins, Freire’s last title defense came in September 2019 against Juan Archuleta. Pitbull managed to retain his title by unanimous decision.
From now on, the Brazilian hopes to face Carvalho, when it is safe for everyone. The fighter has not let the Coronavirus stop him. Training regularly, Freire confirms that he is ready to enter the octagon.
