Justin Gaethje reached gold when the opportunity to fight for the interim title came to him. To avoid missing this opportunity, Gaethje relaxed his condition regarding short-term fights.
Unfortunately, all the endless efforts he made in that short period of time went down the drain, as the April 18 event never saw the light of day.
In an interview with Bret Okamoto, Gaethje revealed that he stopped training when he learned of the cancellation. Describing everything that happened upon hearing the cancellation, he said:
“It was the saddest and most relieving thing I have ever experienced! Once I turned it on, you know, it was all in. And then when they canceled it, it was a relief! Because, essentially, I wasn’t getting the necessary time or I didn’t want the circumstances. Fortunately, I’ve been training and training. So my body wasn’t bad. I was able to go down to 67-68, no problem. “
“The Highlight” was apparently preparing for a big fight this year. He explained that his last fight was last year, and that he hoped to fight in a big event, so he didn’t let his body go out of shape.
“Nothing has changed for me” – Justin Gaethje
About how his training is going, with all the coronavirus-related restrictions, Gaethje said:
“Nothing has changed for me. I mean, other than when I’m [with] all my team There are like 20-30 people there. But, if we are just my training partners, we are like 6 of us. And two coaches. the [surest] and the fastest way for me [to die] right now is not being ready for the fight and fight. I cannot take shortcuts. I can’t have teammates here. “
Apparently Justin is isolated with other training partners, including UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and his coaches.
Regarding his training regimen and game plan, Gaethje completely trusts “the people around him.” In such an uncertain and pressing circumstance like this, he completely trusts his head coach, Trevor Whittman, and everyone involved in preparing him for the fight, to do the right thing, saying:
“I really trust the people that lead me to be ready for the fight.”
How do you think the super fight between Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje will unfold?
