The government said on Thursday that the growth of the coronavirus in India has been more or less linear and not exponential due to the success of certain strategies and that the country has fared much better than developed countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom in this sense. The Center also noted that the recovery rate of covid cases in the country has steadily increased to nearly 20%, with 4,257 people out of the total of 21,393 infections that have been cured so far, including 388 that were cured yesterday.

Home health and ministry officials presented an analysis of India’s containment strategy during the daily briefing, which was also attended by an official from empowered groups created to channel the country’s response to the contagion.

Government officials noted another positive development, in addition to eight new names on the list of districts across the country that have not reported any new cases of coronavirus in the past 14 days. The list of such districts has now grown to 78, said Lav Agarwal, joint secretary of the ministry of health.

He added that a total of 1409 additional positive coronavirus cases were reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases to 16,454.

A member of one of the empowered groups formed to plan, implement and coordinate India’s response to the pandemic said that the past 30 days of national closure indicate that India’s containment efforts have been largely successful.

“We have been able to reduce transmissions, minimize propagation, and increase the duplication rate. We have also been able to constantly increase our testing and have used this time to prepare for the future challenges that the virus may present, ”said the official.

He added that the percentage of positive cases versus the number of tests performed has remained about the same for the past 30 days in India, suggesting that there was no exponential jump in infections.

“The growth of the virus has been more or less linear and not exponential due to certain strategies that have helped India contain the spread at a particular level,” he said.

It is important to note that both the number of tests and positive cases have increased in the last month.

The official said that India has a much lower number of positive cases for every 5 lakh of tests performed compared to Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States and Spain. He added that South Korea was one of the main countries that did even better than India in that parameter.

By shedding more light on the containment strategy, the government official said India had successfully decentralized its response to the virus by attacking the private sector and empowering districts to be at the forefront of fighting the disease.

“We have expanded the evidence base, expanded the evidence base, and have mobilized all resources in the public and private domain. We have decentralized our response to the coronavirus by mobilizing the private and private sector. We will expand our tests even further to a much higher level in the coming days, ”the official said.

He added that the government’s first strategic objective is to ensure that people do not have to visit hospitals to receive treatment for coronavirus and that this is achieved through social distancing, confinement and care for the elderly.

The government’s second goal, he said, is to create enough infrastructure and health facilities for each person who has to visit the hospital to receive care from Covid.
