Google adds 4 new features to the Duo video calling app.

Google has begun rolling out four new features in its Google Duo video calling app, along with a promise to add more soon. The search engine giant is launching a new video codec technology to improve the quality and reliability of video calls, even on very low-bandwidth connections. The second feature that Google launches in Duo will allow users to click on a photo during a video call.

One can take a photo together to capture the moment on smartphones, tablets and Chromebooks, and automatically share it with everyone on the call. One will be able to do this on group calls and on more devices soon, the company said.

“Every week, more than 10 million new people sign up for Duo, and in many countries, call minutes have increased more than ten-fold,” Dave Citron, Group Product Manager, Google Duo, reported Tuesday.

Google recently increased its limit of participants in video calls to 12 users and now the company has revealed its plans to further increase the limit. Google is also adding a feature that will now automatically save voice and video messages that previously expired after 24 hours.

Users can send personalized voice and video messages when they cannot call. Google now allows its users to say “I miss you” or “I’m thinking of you” using one of its Augmented Reality (AR) effects.
