J&K Police Director Dilbag Singh said Tuesday that during operations forces sometimes suffer losses; However, he said that operations against terrorists will intensify.
Singh was speaking to the media after the wreath-laying ceremony for three CRPF jawans in Srinagar who were killed in a terror attack in Handwara on Monday. He told reporters that CRPF had established a naka at Wangam in Handwara when the terrorists attacked them.
“There was a civil movement and when asked to come closer, the terrorists hiding behind them opened fire. While retaliating, we also lost our men.”
The DGP said that operations against terrorists will be intensified and will be carried out with full force. “The terrorists were hunted for three days before the encounter. Unfortunately, we lost five people there, including three officers, “he said, adding that during operations, the forces also have to suffer losses.
He said that a new infiltration has been reported in Baramulla and that many terrorists are also active in Sopore. “Due to the infiltration, we had to hunt down the terrorists in the forests of Handwara, where we lost our brave soldiers, we also had the entrances and the commanding officer and others chased them.”
During the crown laying ceremony, tributes were paid to the three CRPF staff members who died in the attack in Handwara. Adviser RR Bhatnagar, DGP Dilbag Singh, Kashmir IGP Vijay Kumar and CRPF IG PK Pandey and Rajesh Kumar attended. The bodies of the three jawans were then flown back to their places of origin.
