Less than a year away from the 2022 ODI Women’s World Cup in New Zealand, the ICC has announced that all tied matches will be decided by a Super Over. In another change in playing conditions, the power-of-five game over which was previously taken at the discretion of any of the batters in between was ruled out.
Meanwhile, the inaugural U-19 Women’s World Cup due to be held in Bangladesh later this year has been postponed to January 2023.
“Covid-19 has had a significant impact on the establishment and further development of U19 programs in many countries and teams would not be able to adequately prepare for a global event later this year,” the ICC stated in a statement. Likewise, the global qualifier for the 2022 Women’s World Cup will also be postponed and will now be played in December 2021.
Mel Jones, who joined the Cricket Australia board in 2019 in what was the first instance in which a woman was appointed through one of the state associations, and Catherine Campbell from New Zealand Cricket were appointed as member representatives fully in the ICC Women’s Committee.
The ICC board also decided that Probation and ODI status will be granted to all full member women’s teams.
