J&K: Two CRPF members killed in militant attack on the outskirts of Srinagar


On Thursday, MILITANTS opened indiscriminate fire on a CRPF vehicle, killing two paramilitaries and wounding two others, outside the city of Srinagar. The condition of one of the injured CRPF men was claimed to be critical.

The attack took place on the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway in Lawaypora in the Srinagar suburbs in the afternoon.

“Terrorists fired indiscriminately at a 73Bn CRPF vehicle in Lawaypora on the National Highway in which 04 CRPF staff members received gunshot wounds. All injured personnel were immediately evacuated to the hospital, ”police said in a statement. “However, two of the injured succumbed to their injuries.”

The CRPF identified the killed CRPF personnel as Deputy Inspector Manga Deb Barma, 54, and Sheriff Ashok Kumar, 36. The injured personnel were identified as Sheriffs Jagan Nath Roy (35) and Nazim Ali. An official said Roy received a blow to the head and is critical.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the attack was carried out by militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba, police said.
