Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out for the remainder of the three-game ODI series against England after dislocating his shoulder while fielding in the first ODI. Iyer suffered a rare injury in England’s eighth inning in Pune on Tuesday while trying to field the ball. He was seen wincing in pain as he lay on his back on the ground, and had to be taken out of the park immediately afterward. He did not participate in the game anymore. Later, BCCI in an update said that Iyer had “subluxed” his left shoulder. “He has been brought in for further exploration and will no longer participate in the game,” BCCI tweeted on Tuesday.

Iyer’s injury also means he will miss part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that starts on April 9.

The right-handed hitter leads Delhi Capitals in the IPL and helped the team reach the final of the 2020 IPL, where they finished runners-up.

Iyer had been in good bat form on the ongoing limited overs leg of the 2021 tour of England.

Overall, Iyer has played 22 ODI and 29 T20I for India since his debut in cue ball cricket in 2017.

Promoted

In T20I, Iyer has scored 550 runs at 28.94 at a strike rate of 133.81 over three half centuries.
