DEHRADUN: The political turmoil that started in Uttarakhand Saturday continued Monday as chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat he rushed to Delhi canceling his previously announced engagements in Gairsain and Dehradun.
High-ranking sources told TOI that Rawat had been summoned to Delhi by the BJPThe central leadership after observer Raman Singh presented a report to party chairman JP Nadda, who met several MLA members in Dehradun on Saturday and received comments from them about a possible leadership change. As of filing this story late at night, Rawat had met neither Nadda nor Interior Minister Amit Shah, although sources said he was scheduled to meet with both. Express Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Former BJP State President and Lok Sabha Member Ajay Bhatt, Former Maharashtra Governor and CM Bhagat Singh Koshyari, State Minister for Higher Education Dhan Singh Rawat, Rajya Sabha member of Uttarakhand Anil Baluni and RSS Secretary General of State Suresh Bhatt is said to be among the contenders for the key post.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the BJP legislative party was called at the CM residence in Dehradun on Tuesday evening, the sources said. Political observers said that holding a legislative party meeting in this setting is important, as it usually takes place when the name of a new leader must be announced to the MLAs.
BJP State Spokesperson Munna Singh Chauhan said: “There is no problem related to the CM publication. It is a courtesy visit to meet with older people before March 18, when our party’s government completes four years in power. ”
