Meanwhile, a group of civil rights activists has lodged a complaint with Gujarat State Election Commissioner Sanjay Prasad against Kunvarji Bavaliya, cabinet minister in Vijay Rupani’s government, seeking action against him for violating the Model Code. of Conduct (MCC).
In their complaint, the group – Nagrik Sashaktikaran Manch – informed Prasad that Bavaliya did not keep his vote confidential. After casting his vote, the complaint adds, Bavaliya said he voted for the BJP and asked others to vote for the party as well.
He added that voting must be confidential and violating confidentiality outside a voting booth is a violation of the MCC. “The State Elections Commission must take immediate steps to set an example and give a message that the law is the same for everyone,” the complaint said.
Five years ago, in November 2015, general elections were held in 56 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 230 taluka panchayats. In those elections, municipalities registered 62.77% of votes, district panchayats registered 69.55% of votes, and taluka panchayats witnessed 69.28% of votes.
